Who holds the power?
To Be a Body, Is to Be Tied to a Certain World is a dance performance that moves across artistic disciplines, exploring the body, our perception of time, and our ability to remain present in a rapidly changing world.
Phinitduang extends choreography beyond the dancer's body through dance, sound art, light, video, and an organic, evolving textile installation. These elements come together as equal parts of a multisensory landscape, where the body and the organic meet the accelerating forces of technology.
The dancer's movements activate sensors that generate and manipulate sound in real time, while the sound in turn influences the movement. This continuous feedback loop makes the relationship between body and technology tangible: each shapes the other, and each performance unfolds differently.
In the face of technology's relentless acceleration and its consequences for our existence, are we losing our grip?
The work premiered at Dansens Hus – Norway's national stage for dance – in Oslo in May 2026, with four sold-out performances. It now returns north to Tromsø for Insomnia Festival.
Created in collaboration with composer and sound artist Lars Andreas Nilssen and visual artist Aleksander Johan Andreassen, with scenography developed in collaboration with artist Lawrence Malstaf.
